A bead core assembly is formed of one or more looped layers of wire and each wire has a free outer end which has an overlap with respect to the innermost layer of wire. For a more favourable distribution of strength around the bead core assembly at the points of overlap wire ends (7, 7') of the individual wires (6), (16), Fig 3 overlap each other in the direction of the circumference by an amount (u) and the overall overlap may be (1 = x.u) in which x represents the number of wires in each layer. The wires may be cut off either obliquely at an angle or in steps. By this means the points of overlap are more favourably distributed over a greater length of circumference. <IMAGE>
