PURPOSE:To enhance the durability of a secondary battery and besides to make its thickness thinner by laying its positive electrode member, electrolyte and negative electrode member transversely on the same plane on the base plate of the battery case. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode member 12 and a negative electrode member 13, each comb-shaped, are set in parallel on the one side surface (plane) of a flat-plate-like base plate 11a, and electrolyte 15 concerned with battery reaction is filled in the space between the electrode members 12 and 13. The positive electrode member 12 and the negative electrode member 13 are arranged so that their side faces may face each other. The progressing direction of the battery reaction at the time of charge and discharge is perpendicular to the thickness direction of the electrode members 12, 13, i.e., parallel to the tooth width direction of the electrodes. The electrode members 12, 13 can thereby be made thinner without any bad effect on the battery life. |
