In an apparatus for generating granules or pellets from flowable material having variable viscosity, the material is fed to the press gap between a rotating hollow roll (1) having internal teeth and press roll (2) which has external teeth and engages with the internal teeth of the hollow roll, bore holes (5) extending from each of the teeth bases of the internal teeth of the hollow roll to their exterior being provided, through which the material is pressed out on engaging with the press roll and is deposited in the form of pellets or granules on a cooling surface.
