A heavy-duty electrical resistor (10) comprises a resistance element (12) arranged in a pot-like casing (16) and provided with connecting elements (22, 28, 30) which at least in part are disposed outside the casing (16). To reduce the insulation, corrosion and heat expansion problems involved in a heavy-duty resistor, the pot-like casing (16) comprises a ceramic material while a filling material (18) fills the space around the resistance element (12) between same and the casing (16). <IMAGE>
