The strain responsive apparatus includes a strain-responsive element 1 and calculator means 4, connected together by two similar pairs of dissimilar leads, A and B. Two leads, A, of the two pairs are connected to a microvoltmeter whilst the other two leads, B, of the pairs are connected across a voltage supply, to enable measurement of strain. At least one pair of the leads, A and B, form a thermocouple at an end of element 1 to allow the measurement to be corrected for the effect of temperature. <IMAGE>
