PURPOSE: To enable a direct negative to be formed by applying a current pulse to a selected stylus in a recording head with a plurality of styli arranged in such a manner that the styli come into contact with the resistive layer of a resistive ribbon. CONSTITUTION: An ink receptive medium 10 comprises an ink-receptive conductive layer 14 and a resistive layer 11 and when current is applied to a selected stylus 18, an intense resistance heat is generated by a current density in the area of a nearby resistive layer 16 and the small area 26 of the resistive layer 16 conducts a sufficient amount of heat of the small area 30 of an adjacent ink-receptive conductive layer 14 and in turn, to the small area 56 of an opaque heat-softening layer 5. Consequently, the small area 56 melts and softens to strip off the small area 56 of an ink layer 14. Further, an opaque ink layer 54 is carried in while ample current is applied to the stylus 18 or right after the application to cause the temperature of the small area 56 to soar, resulting in the softening or melting of the small area 56 and the subsequent transfer of an ink onto the area 30. A transparent area 58 is formed on a transparent support substrate 52 by removing the area 56, and a preparatory negative plate 50 becomes a direct negative. |
