PURPOSE:To produce a dense zirconia thin film on a porous base plate, by coating a porous base plate with a mixture of a zirconia powder stabilized with yttria and a zirconia sol stabilized with yttria. CONSTITUTION:50-90wt.% of a yttria-stabilized zirconia powder of about 0.3mum particle sizes and 50-10wt.% of zirconia sol stabilized with yttria of 0.005-0.1mum of particle sizes are mixed and dispersed in water to prepare a slurry. A porous base plate such as alumina plate is coated with the slurry, and calcined by heating from room temperature up to 600 deg.C at a temperature increase rate 0.5-2 deg.C/min, and from 600 deg.C up to 1,200-1,400 deg.C at a rate of 1-10 deg.C/min to form a porous thin film. When needed, the thin film is coated with a 10-40wt.% slurry of yttria-stabilized zirconia powder, dried and calcined under the same conditions cited above. |
