PURPOSE:To obtain high-speed optical nonlinear response with high efficiency by using a compd. having a specified structure. CONSTITUTION:A compd. represented by formula I is used as an org. nonlinear optical material. In formula I, a group represented by formula II is a pi electron conjugated system, A is an electron accepting group, Y is a bonding radical, Xn is 1-4 halogen atoms, the conjugated system represented by formula II is typified by bivalent benzene, pyridine or furan, a nitro group is optimum for use as the acceptor A, Cl atoms are optimum for use as the 1-4 halogen atoms Xn, and the bonding radical -Y= is a conjugate bonding radical such as -CH= or -N= or a bonding radical loosely conjugated through a lone electron-pair, e.g., -NH-N=. The optical material attains high-speed optical nonlinear response with high efficiency. |
