PURPOSE:To increase the speed of dot development, as well as to miniaturize a hardware of a drawing processor by storing in a character generator a plurality of divided character pattern units with each divided unit being compressed or maintained as it is following the division of a character pattern of an original size into such a plurality of divided pattern units. CONSTITUTION:A character pattern is divided into units and each divided unit is compressed. Afterwards, these units are stored in a character generator 2. This allows only a part of the character pattern to be enlarged only by feeding such a part of the character pattern into a drawing processor 3. In other words, since a lower right-hand side character pattern unit is compressed to be stored in the last twelve words of the character generator 2, in order to enlarge this character pattern unit, the drawing processor 3 only has to be caused to allow the relevant unit to be fed from the character generator 2 into a fetch buffer of the drawing processor 3. |
