A method of and apparatus for ordinal filtering to separate unwanted signals such as noise and/or unwanted data from wanted signals such as wanted data in a complex signal conglomerate, wherein a succession of ordinal typically median filters (10-16) of increasing order or a median filter of adjustable order value is employed successively to ordinal filter first the raw input and then the progressively filtered output or the order value successively increases, and the output of the highest order filtering step is utilised to form at least part of the required output signal. |
