WATER ABSORBENT POLYMER AND METHOD OF PRODUCTION THEREOF

Water absorbent polymer capable of keeping absorbed water therein in the form of independent grains and having the property of slipping between particles is produced by: a) dissolving acrylic copolymer as dispersing agent in a liquid aliphatic hydrocarbon; b) partially neutralizing an acrylic acid monomer in aqueous solution with an alkali to form an aqueous solution of partially neutralized acrylic acid; c) dispersing the aqueous solution of partially neutralized acrylic acid of b) in the solution of acrylic copolymer of a) to polymerize by w/o suspension polymerization; and d) subjecting the resultant polymer of c) to crosslinking reaction in the presence of crosslinking agents and in the presence or absence of an inorganic compound to dry.
