PURPOSE:To obtain a film image nearly free from fog and having satisfactory performance by carrying out development with a developing soln. contg. a dihydroxybenzene developing agent and sulfite in the presence of a specified compd. CONSTITUTION:A silver halide photosensitive material is developed with a developing soln. of 10.5-12.3 pH contg. a dihydroxybenzene developing agent and <=0.3mol./l sulfite in the presence of a compd. represented by formula I (where each of R1-R3 is H, nitro, halogen or cyano, at least one of R1-R3 is nitro and one of the remaining two is halogen or cyano). Fogging is suppressed and high contrast and satisfactory photographic characteristics are obtd. |
