PURPOSE:To obtain the title compound which is used as an intermediate of medicines and agrochemicals, under mild reaction conditions readily in high yield, by conducting the reaction of an easy-to-handle organic hydroperoxide as an oxidizing agent, with a 1,3-cycloalkadiene in the presence of a transition metal-containing catalyst. CONSTITUTION:An organic hydroperoxide is used as an oxidizing agent to epoxidize 1,3-cycloalkadiene of formula 1 (n is 5-8; R is H, 1-10C alkyl) in the presence of a catalyst containing a transition metal compound (vanadyl acetylacetonate or molybdecene (IV) dichloride is preferred in an amount of 0.05-1.0mol.% preferably 0.1-0.5 mole% based on the compound of formula I). The organic hydroperoxide is, e.g., ethyl hydroperoxide and the amount is 0.2-0.5 equivalent based on the compound of formula I. |
