The breakwater element according to the application comprises two steel tubes, the smaller of which 1 is placed on the wave side, and the larger 2 on the lee- side. The tubes 1 and 2 have been joined together with tube 3 by welding to a cross-frame construction. The construction is covered by a steel plate 4 with holes 5 through which water which has flowed onto the plate escapes. On the breakwater's lee-side, a floating steel tube 6 has been fixed to tube 2, and on said tube 6 a walkway 7 has been constructed, with extension shafts 8 for advance warning of boats. The breakwater element is anchored by two chains 9 attached to tube 2, with concrete weights 10 on their bottom ends. The breakwater element functions such that the wave rises on steel plate 4, pushes tube 1 down beneath the water surface and rises up along the steel plate 4 until it has completely trickled away down through the holes 5 and lost its kinetic energy. <IMAGE>
