Process for the production of thixotropic metal gels in an annular crucible. The process employs the properties of rotating permanent magnets to create shearing forces, of viscous origin, in an alloy whose temperature is lower than that of the liquidus. The invention finds its application in metallurgy, in all cases where it is desired to exploit the properties of thixotropic metal gels to improve the forming and the structure of moulded articles or of ingots and also when it is desired to obtain high-performance composite materials. <IMAGE>
