The worktable (10) can be moved accurately in directions at right angles and has vertical guides (13) carrying horizontal supports extending between end blocks (11,12) supporting the longitudinal driving elements between them. These include belt drives which move the table between the end blades. Below the table is a non-circular guide shaft (14) also supported between the end blocks. Longitudinal guide are ground level. At the level of the guide shaft is a lower slide which travels longitudinally, and above it is an upper slide which travels on the lower slide of right angles to it, controlled by a movement converting mechanism on an end block. The has a belt drive connected to the longitudinal belt drive system.
