The invention relates to a process for preparing 1,5-benzothiazepine derivatives of formula: <IMAGE> in which the symbols are defined, and their addition salts with pharmaceutically suitable acids, by intramolecular cyclisation of a propionic acid derviative of formula: <IMAGE> in which the symbols are as defined above, or of a reactive derivative of the latter.
