PURPOSE:To raise a ratio of conversion from an unsaturated aldehyde to an unsaturated alcohol, by having a catalyst carrier composed of ZnO and SiO2 or Al2O3 support a specified amount of metal component composed of Ag or Cu and Cd. CONSTITUTION:A metal component is prepared, wherein (a) at least one of Ag and Cu and (b) Cd is contained and an atomic ratio of (a) to (b) is 3-10. On the other hand, a catalyst carrier component is formed, wherein (c) ZnO and (d) at least one of SiO2 and Al2O3 are contained and an atomic ratio of Zn to Si and/or Al is not less than 1. A hydrogenation catalyst for unsaturated aldehyde is obtained by having the aforementioned catalyst carrier support 1-40wt.% aforementioned metal component. A selective hydrogenation of an unsaturated aldehyde is carried out by bringing it into contact with this catalyst in the presence of 2-1,000mol. hydrogen to 1mol. unsaturated aldehyde at 100-250 deg.C. |
