A method of accurately setting the swivel angle of a tool-clamping device for the machining of preferably rotationally symmetric workpieces is described, in which the tool-clamping device can be fastened to a head, provided with a drive spindle, of an apparatus provided with a preferably incremental displacement-measuring device for accurately measuring and/or setting the rotation angle and can be coupled to the drive spindle. So that the swivel angle can be set not only with essentially the same accuracy as the rotation angle but also in the entire swivel range from 0@ to 90@ with such a method with the aid and utilisation of a very accurate rotary-angle displacement-measuring system, which is present anyway, by purely mechanical means, the following steps are provided: an auxiliary setting device is coupled to the drive spindle of the head, and a first setting surface, running radially in a first position, of the auxiliary setting device is set in an exactly horizontal position by rotating the drive spindle; the drive spindle is rotated through a rotation angle which corresponds to the swivel angle to be set, and a second setting surface, running radially in a first position, of the auxiliary setting device is set in an exactly horizontal position; the drive spindle is turned back by the rotation angle set beforehand; the second setting surface of the auxiliary setting device is ...
