PURPOSE:To obtain the title fibers which are low in transmission loss in a UV region by forming a clad material of a fluorine-contained polymer having a cyclic structure in the main chain. CONSTITUTION:The clad material of the plastic clad light transmission fiber having the core consisting of quartz glass or optical glass is formed of the fluorine-contained polymer having the cyclic chain in the main chain. The fluorine-contained polymer having the cyclic chain in the main chain has no crysatllinity and has a high content of fluorine; therefore, said polymer is transparent and is low in refractive index. Since the polymer has high strength and has a good leak characteristic to the core material, the strength of the light transmission fiber is high; furthermore, there are not cured parts and C-H bonds and, therefore, the light transmittance of the UV region (200-400nm) is high. Generation of heat by UV absorption is thereby decreased and the decrease in the transmission quantity of UV rays is obviated. |
