<p>Disclosed is a semiautomatic frying apparatus (10) including a food carrying basket (36) having a forward mounting lip (40) and a rearward handle (44). The apparatus includes a basket-supporting shaft (52) having a lip-engaging cradle (54) for mounting the basket to the shaft. Disposed beneath the shaft, in a position to receive the basket upon rotation of the shaft, is a vessel (90) holding heated cooking medium such as oil. A plate-like heater (110) disposed beneath the vessel in heating contact therewith includes a bottom surface (119) having a recess (120) for mounting one or more temperature sensors (128 and 130), the recess opening into an airflow cavity (126). The frying apparatus is disposed within a cabinet (12) and a fan (220) and filter (222), also disposed within the cabinet, provides an air flow therethrough. A door (134) connected by linkage (148) to the basket-supporting shaft (52) selectively blocks air flow through the cavity beneath the heating plate, and when opened to an unblocking position, purges heated air from the recess air, providing compensation for the temperature sensors therein.</p> |
