Method and device for continuous lambda control

In a method for continuous lambda control, the actual voltage of the probe is not used to form a probe voltage system deviation as in conventional methods but rather to form a lambda value system deviation. For this purpose, either the actual voltage of the probe is converted into an actual lambda value in accordance with a characteristic curve and the said actual lambda value compared with a desired lambda value or the actual probe voltage compared with a desired probe voltage and the calculated probe voltage system deviation is converted into a lambda value system deviation with the aid of a characteristic curve. This method permits continuous control even when using a probe with a highly non-linear characteristic curve. Advantageously, corrections for compensating temperature effects of the characteristic curve and for compensating offset voltages are still carried out. A device for carrying out the aforesaid method has in particular a device for performing the aforesaid conversions of voltage values into lambda values. <IMAGE>
