The invention relates to a window in a wall (10) which delimits an area in which there is located a hot medium under high pressure. The invention provides that an inner end wall (2) of an outwardly extending hollow body (1) is arranged in the wall (10) of said area. The inner end wall (2) consists of temperature-resistant, but non-pressure-resistant, transparent material. An outer end wall (3) is arranged, on the hollow body (1), opposite the inner end wall (2). Said outer end wall consists of a pressure-resistant, but non-temperature-resistant, transparent material. The interior (4) of the hollow body (1) is in connection with stubs (5 and 6) for a gas-feed line and for a gas-discharge line. By feeding in and discharging a relatively cold, dry gas a high pressure, which largely corresponds to the pressure of the medium, and a low temperature, which is largely identical to the ambient temperature, are maintained in the interior (4) of the hollow body (1). <IMAGE>
