<p>A method and apparatus for sealing and affixing connectors (26), (27) to membrane tubing (24) reinforced by braided netting material of the braid or of an overlay (31), (33) formed of thermoplastic material (or a combination of both) to produce the mechanical seal between tubing (24) and connectors (26), (27). The seal includes an inner chemically inert tubular insert (28) or (29), which may be formed of stainless steel, ceramic, or glass. The insert (28) or (29) is placed in the end of the drying tube (24). The connector (26) or (27) is fused to tube (24) by applying high temperature and pressure to the area of the tubing over the insert (28) or (29). This causes fusion of either the braiding material itself or fusion of a thermoplastic overlay (31), (33) placed over the end of tubing (24) surrounding insert (28) or (29) and results in a seal which will not leak and which will retain its integrity.</p> |
