In a suspension device for a container cover, a plurality of ropes are wound onto, or unwound from, a rope drum and are guided over rope rollers to the spreader. The rope suspension (7) comprises three pairs of ropes (4, 5, 6) of equal length. The end of each pair of ropes (4, 5, 6) engages with the fastening point (21, 22, 23) on the spreader (3). Each rope (4a, 4b, 5a, 5b, 6a, 6b) is guided to the rope suspension (7) over two spaced rollers (15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20) so as to form rope guides directed downwards along the sides of equilateral triangles (24, 25, 26) lying in vertical planes and making an angle of 60 DEG with each other.
