To enable a physically handicapped person to read, apparatus is provided which receives a scroll (7) on which the leaves of a book are mounted, and allows the handicapped person to drive the scroll forwardly or in reverse, automatically stops scrolling when a leaf is in the centre of the field of vision, and allows the handicapped person to reverse the scroll to see the reverse side of the leaf. <IMAGE>
