In the case of the collapsible multipurpose ladder according to the invention, for example the guide parts (10) of the left-hand and right-hand halves (6, 7) of the first articulation part (4) are configured as U-profiles having webs (6a, 7a) which rest flatly against the string (2), and having (legs 6b, 7b) of the same length. The legs (6b, 7b) can be angled off inwards at an angle of less than 90@ with respect to the webs (6a, 7a), with the result that spacings (13) are thus obtained between the legs (6b, 7b) of the guide parts (10). The string (2), formed, for example, by angling off steel sheeting or aluminium sheeting, can be laterally connected at its points of connection (2b) by a weld seam (14), with the result that the string (2) can be pushed, without hindrance, onto the guide parts (10) of the left-hand and right-hand halves (6, 7) of the first articulation part (4). <IMAGE>
