The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for feeding a continuous material web, especially a plastic-foil web, to a shaping, filling and welding machine for the packaging of products in bags formed from the material web. According to the invention, a material web, with a material strip having a free edge and intended for receiving a product, with a tab which is formed by folding round a flat material along a folding line along the edge of the material strip located opposite the free edge and which partially overlaps the material strip, and with a reclosable fastening, resembling a zip fastener, in the form of two strip-like profiled elements engaged releasably with one another, running in the longitudinal direction of the foil web and provided between the folding line and the free edge of the tab on the mutually confronting faces of the material strip and of the tab respectively, is guided on its way to the machine by means of various guides, in such a way that the tab is finally folded up completely and that the initially overlapped surface of the material strip is freely accessible for laying a product onto it.
