A method of generating coloured images point-by-point, using devices which in generating the individual image points permit only a few different options in relation to colour components and size, is described. The image point which is generated is the one which causes the smallest difference between the required and generated colour stimulus specification vectors. This difference vector is taken into account when generating subsequent image points. A modification of this method, which is necessary if the individual image points overlap, is also described. <IMAGE>
