FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: 9-aminocaptothecin of formula I: <EMI ID=0.1 HE=39 WI=49 TI=CHI> is prepared by reacting reduced compound of formula II <EMI ID=0.2 HE=33 WI=49 TI=CHI> with diazotizing agent to form compound of formula IV <EMI ID=0.3 HE=33 WI=49 TI=CHI> which successively nitrated and nitro group is reduced, and halogen is simultaneously removed in compound of formula V: <EMI ID=0.4 HE=37 WI=49 TI=CHI>. Method makes it possible to recycle 12-nitroderivative into process by means of conversion of 9-amino under simple and mild conditions to attain high yields and purity of the reaction products.
