A method for obtaining a test antigen, which can be administered intracutaneously to cattle, against bovine herpesvirus type 1 infection is described and entails a virus suspension being concentrated and impurities being removed, the virus concentrate being washed with a buffer solution, the viruses being precipitated, the virus precipitate being suspended in a buffer solution, and the viruses being inactivated, characterised in that impurities which pass through a filter with a pore width of 0.06-0.08 mu m are removed. A test antigen of this type which can be administered straightforwardly and non-injuriously to animals is advantageous for rapid diagnosis of infected cattle as part of BHV 1 control and eradication programmes and, furthermore, permits a distinction to be made between actively acquired and passively transferred protection from BHV 1 infection.
|
