A baler comprises means for securing a completed bale of material and metering means (30, 38) for triggering the operation of the securing means. The metering means (30, 38) include a rotatable member (35) drivingly co-operable with a trip arm (30). Relative driving movement between the trip arm (30) and the rotatable member (35) take place on rotation of the member (35) until said member (35) engages a recess (34) in the trip arm (30), at which point, operation of the securing means is triggered. The extent of said relative driving movement is representative of a dimension of the bale being formed. The metering means (30, 38) further comprises a freely rotatable member (41) mounted on the trip arm (30) at the entry of the recess (34) for, when during operation, the rotatable member (35) is at the point to enter into said recess (34), engaging said rotatable member (35) and thereby braking the connection between the rotatable member (35) and the trip arm (30). |
