NEGATIVE ELECTRODE OF NONAQUEOUS SECONDARY BATTERY

PURPOSE:To increase the reversibility of an electrode and to lengthen the life of a battery by adding a rare earth metal to a Li-Pb alloy. CONSTITUTION:In a secondary battery using a Li-Pb base alloy as a negative active material and a nonaqueous electrolyte, 20 atomic % or less rare earth metal based on Pb is added to the negative active material. When a small amount of rare earth metal such as Y and La is added to the active material, this metal deposites in grain boundary, and retards the side reaction of lithium with an electrolyte to prevent the consumption of lithium. The reversibility of an electrode is increased and the life of a battery is lengthened.
