Regulation method for the glow plug temperature in a diesel engine, and circuit therefor.

A method is presented for regulating the temperature of glow plugs in diesel engines. In this method use is made of the fact that the electrical resistance of a glow plug varies with the temperature. In the case of this method the flow of current to the glow plug is periodically switched on and off by pulse width modulation. During the shut-off pauses a physical variable representing the electrical resistance of the glow plug is determined. Once this measurement has exceeded a predetermined reference value a control process is initiated which sets the temperature of the glow plug so that a predetermined operating temperature is maintained. A circuit arrangement for implementing the method is also presented.
