Self-sharpening spring biased retractable blade knife

The retractable blade knife has a hollow handle (1) with a blade opening at the front (9), and a blade carrier mounted within the handle. A blade (10) can be connected to and removed from the carrier (20) by a connector (21,23). The blade can be moved by an actuator (27) from a position within the blade to a position outside the blade. Adjacent the opening is a blade sharpener (34) and engages with the cutting edge (17) of the blade to sharpen it. - A sharpener release device (38) can be operated to render the sharpener inoperable. The carrier (20) can be removed from the handle of the knife by the rear end of the handle. The rear end portion (7) is completely removable.
