The coupling for railway carriages has a hitch bar (2) with a socket nut (4) at each end to receive a ball joint (9) on the end of a respective damper (11) traction rod. Each damper is mounted on a carriage chassis (1) and has a pressure plate (13) in contact with the nut so that misalignment of the damper traction rod and hitch bar causes a compression of the damper to induce a realignment force.
