PURPOSE:To obtain the above compound which can give a specified X-ray diffraction pattern and is suitable as a charge generator of a highly sensitive electrophotographic material, by adding a specified phthalocyanine derivative to a titanium phthalocyanine compound and treating the mixture to convert into pigment. CONSTITUTION:A titanium phthalocyanine compound (e.g., oxytitanium phthalocyanine) is mixed with a phthalocyanine derivative in which the benzene rings of the phthalocyanine molecule are substituted (e.g., formula I or II, wherein Pc is phthalocyanine). This mixture is treated by an acid pasting or acid slurry process. In this way, a quasi-noncrystalline titanium phthalocyanine compound which can give an X-ray diffraction pattern having broad X-ray diffraction peaks at Bragg angles (2theta+ or -0.2 deg.) of 6.9 deg., 15.5 deg., 23.4 deg. and 25.5 deg.. By using this compound as a charge generator, an electrophotographic material excellent in exposure sensitivity characteristics, etc., can be obtained. |
