PURPOSE:To enhance the selectivity of catalytic activity of the above catalyst by depositing >=one kind among Na, K, Rb, and Ce in addition to Ag as the catalytic components on a carrier consisting essentially of alpha-alumina and having the surface with controlled acidity and basicity to obtain the catalyst. CONSTITUTION:The formed catalyst carrier consists essentially of alpha-alumina, shows no oxygen in the color reaction in a toluene soln. with dimethyl yellow at +3.3pKa as the indicator, and does not show basicity in a toluene soln. with bromothymol blue at +7.1pKa as the indicator. At least one kind among Na, K, Rb, and Ce as the cationic component in addition to Ag are deposited on the catalyst carrier as the catalytic components, and an Ag-carrying catalyst for producing ethylene oxide by the oxidation of ethylene is obtained. The cationic components are appropriately deposited as the aq. solns. |
