PURPOSE:To enhance development performance and stability of image density by forming a carrier composed of core particles made of a low-density material, a layer of magnetic material particles fixed to the surfaces of the core particles, and a surface layer of an organic polymer coating said magnetic layer. CONSTITUTION:Each of the carrier particles is a multilayer structure composed of the core particles 1 consisting of a low-density material, such as a resin or aluminum, the layer of the magnetic material 2 of metal, metal oxide, or ferrite particles smaller in diameter than the core particle 1 and mechanically fixed to the core particle 1, optionally, further sintered after fixing, and the surface layer of the organic polymer 3 coating the material 2, thus permitting the obtained carrier particles to be low in cost, small in weight, rich in rigidity, and optionally controllable in magnetic characteristics, electric resistance, surface charge quantity, and particle diameter distribution, and consequently, enhanced in development performance and stability of image density. |
