<p>PURPOSE:To provide an impact resistant resin compsn. well suited to covering materials for golf balls, by incorporating a particular modified ionomer as a principal material. CONSTITUTION:A modified ionomer is prepared by reacting a sodium ion- neutralized ionomer (e.g., HI-MILAN 1605 prepd. by MITSUI POLYCHEMICAL Co.) with magnesium oxide, etc. to neutralize 7-25% of unneutralized carboxylic acids remaining in the ionomer with magnesium ions. 100pts.wt. said modified ionomer is mixed wit4h 2-10pts.wt. polyethylene (pref. linear, low-density polyethylene). The resulting resin compsn. is excellent in impact resistance in regions between low and normal temps. and does not cause drop in impact resistance even after being stored at elevated temps.</p> |
