PURPOSE:To eliminate heat insulation in an inert gas atmosphere by storing solid phosphoric acid in a reservoir, melting the solid phosphoric acid during operation, and impregnating a specified amount of a phosphoric acid electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A unit cell consists of a fuel electrode N, an air electrode P, and an electrolyte matrix M interposed between both electrodes. A gas separating plate has passages 4 and 5 for fuel gas and reaction air on its both sides, and a reservoir 6 is formed on fuel gas passage 4 side. During cell operation, solid phosphoric acid 7 in the reservoir 6 is melted by raising temperature, and a specified amount of electrolyte is impregnated in the matrix. An electrolyte impregnation process in a cell assembly process is omitted and heat insulation in an inert gas atmosphere in storage or transportation is made unnecessary. |
