A removable cartridge (7) for supplying leads (4) has a chuck type member (8) for opening the lead guide hole (84) when the member (8) applies an urging force to lead guide (6) and for closing the holewhen not applying a force to the guide. The cartridge makes it easy to recharge leads into the pencil.
