The contact lens 10 of the invention is placed over the eye 1, matching the shape of the cornea 2, and ensuring its position centred on the axis X-X of the pupil 3 by its bevelled edge 12 bearing on the choroid. The lens 10 is provided, on the pupillary axis X-X, with a substantially circular tinted zone 13 which forms a solar filter and the diameter of which is approximately 2 mm. Under high illuminations, the pupil 3 contracts to a diameter less than that of the tinted zone and the incident flux passes, for the most part, through the tinted zone 13. Under lower illumination, the pupil dilates beyond the diameter of the tinted zone 13, the filter role of which is attenuated. The physiological effect is equivalent to that of sunglasses with absorption which can vary as a function of the illumination, but the protection is invisible. <IMAGE>
