A dividing device for an irregular sequence of individual switching events in several subsets, which can be detected in total sets, consists of a cascade of counters which are fewer by 1 than intended subsets. Each of these counters which can be incremented by these events, selects and signals the individual switching events in each case allocated to one of the subsets and only forwards the in each case remaining ones of these to the next counter in each case following in the cascade. The totality of these events is only supplied to the first counter. The last counter signals the events allocated to two subsets. Each counter is incremented cyclically and, with each event supplied to it, in each case by a number of steps which corresponds to a quota relating to the respective subset. With each overflow, each counter signals a corresponding event as allocated to the relevant subset. Each counter can be set - in the quantitative sense - to a counter-individual counting cycle which results from the sum of a proportion, graded in steps, of corresponding quotas. <IMAGE>
