A process and a device for the air classification of materials are proposed. A drum classifier is used for this, the material being classified by the countercurrent air process. The material is introduced into the air current from above at the highest point of the drum. The drum itself is arranged so as to be inclined, so that the heavier material constituents are separated out at the lower end of the drum. To provide optimum separation of the materials, the effective cross-section of the drum is reduced by appropriate measures. <IMAGE>
