In the case of known systems for the cultivation of edible mushrooms, controlled growth is not possible since the nutrient substrate is exposed to the constant action of air and light and the mushrooms grow without the possibility of being influenced from outside. In order to achieve controlled growth, provision is made for the nutrient substrate, along with the mushroom spawn, to be introduced into a bag consisting of a light-impermeable material, with the result that the mushrooms can only emerge through special, closeable growth openings. The process and the receptacle suitable therefor are suitable, in particular, for the cultivation of edible mushrooms by the consumer. <IMAGE>
