A hydraulic piston cylinder unit (7, 8) is provided for a hydraulically actuated valve control of an engine valve (5) for internal combustion engines, the hydraulic pistons of the said piston cylinder unit (7, 8) being mechanically coupled on one side to the engine valve (5) and being capable of being supplied with pressure on the other side in a controlled fashion by means of electromagnetic closing valves (13, 14) of a pressure medium system. In addition, engine piston position-dependent and engine speed-dependent sensors (16) are arranged which are electrically coupled to the electromagnetic closing valves via an electronic amplifier unit. The invention achieves the object of providing a valve control system which can be regulated and has a wide control range for precise opening and closing times which can be adjusted in a reproducible fashion. <IMAGE>
