PURPOSE:To obtain the title sintered compact contg. cubic boron nitride and appropriate as the material for wear-resistant tools by preparing a sintered compact contg. CBN, Al2O3, AlN, AlB2, TiB2, a high-m.p. metal compd., and a rare-earth metal compd. in a specified ratio. CONSTITUTION:A sintered compact contg. by volume, 10-80% CBN, 7.5-80% Al2O3, 2.5-20% AlN, 1-5% AlB2, 1-5% TiB2, 3.75-40% at least one kind of high-m.p. metal compd. among the carbides and nitrides of Ti, Zr, Hf, Ta, Nb, and V and their solid soln., 0.5-5% rare-earth metal compd. consisting of at least one kind among the oxides and nitrides of Y, Dy, and Yb and their solid soln., and inevitable impurities is prepared. In addition, the mean particle diameter of the CBN is controlled to <=about 15mu, the mean particle diameter of the Al2O3 to <=1.0mu, and the volume ratio of the Al2O3 to the high-m.p. metal compd. to 0.5-0.956/0.5-0.044. By this method, a sintered compact with enhanced strength and wear resistance is obtained. |
