A heat exchange apparatus, suitable in particular for use in a fermentation container, consists of a tube bundle consisting of preferably vertical tube units 1 arranged in parallel rows. The tube units 1 in each row are attached to a branch tube 8 which is divided, by a diametrically arranged partition 14, into a lower inlet chamber 6 and an upper outlet chamber 10 for the heat exchange fluid, for example a coolant. Each of the tube units 1 comprises an outer tube 4, the upper end 18 of which is closed by a cap 12 and the lower end 16 of which is attached to a branch in the branch pipe 8 and connected to the outlet chamber 10 in the latter, and an inner tube 2 arranged coaxially inside the outer tube 4. The upper end 22 of the inner tube 2 is located at a distance from the cap 12 of the upper end 4, while its lower end 20 is attached in an opening 24 in the partition 14, and the interior 26 of the tube 2 is therefore connected to the inlet chamber 6 in the branch tube 8. In this way, a flow path for heat exchange fluid is formed, from the inlet chamber 6 in the branch pipe 8, through the interior 26 of the inner tube 2 and the annular interspace 28 between the outer tube 4 and the inner tube 2, to the outlet chamber 10 in the branch tube 8. <IMAGE>
