<p>After aqueous sodium aluminate solution which is cycling in the Bayer process is subjected to a precipitation of aluminium hydroxide, the solution is cooled until impurities are substantially precipitated with or whithout seed of sodium salt of vanadium, arsenic or phosphorus or enough diluted with water to a level that no precipitation occurs in the following adsorption steps, and then the solution is brought into contact with adsorbents for gallium. Gallium is recovered from the adsorbents.</p>
